Phalaenopsis orchids, also known as moth orchids, are one of the most popular and rewarding orchids to grow. With their elegant arching stems and long-lasting blooms, they bring beauty and sophistication to any space. Best of all, they’re easier to care for than most people think!
Light
Place your orchid in bright, indirect light. A north- or east-facing window is ideal. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Watering
Water your orchid thoroughly when the potting mix feels nearly dry—about once a week. Always let excess water drain away, and never leave the roots sitting in water.
Temperature & Humidity
orchids thrive in typical household conditions. Keep them in a warm spot between 18–24°C (65–75°F), with a little extra humidity if possible.
Feeding
During the growing season, feed lightly every 2–3 weeks with a balanced orchid fertilizer. Reduce feeding in winter when growth slows.
After Blooming
Once flowers fade, you have two options:
- Trim above a node on the flower spike to encourage a possible rebloom.
- Cut the spike back completely if you’d like the plant to focus on growing stronger roots and leaves.
